Canada-Bangladesh Chamber Set to Host Trade Expo in 2025
Dhaka, Bangladesh – [12 Feb 2025] – The Canada-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) has announced plans to host its highly anticipated Canada-Bangladesh Trade Expo in September 2025. After facing postponements in 2023 and 2024 due to unforeseen circumstances, the Chamber is now optimistic about organizing the event this year to strengthen bilateral trade and investment opportunities between the two nations.
The road show for the Trade Expo was inaugurated on February 8, 2023, at the Dhaka Sheraton Hotel, with Ex-Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi as the chief guest. The minister commended CBCC’s efforts, stating that such initiatives play a crucial role in fostering economic collaboration between Canada and Bangladesh. However, due to the National Parliament election in Bangladesh and delays in obtaining necessary permissions from the Commerce Ministry, the 2023 event had to be postponed.
Further challenges in 2024, including the aftermath of the national elections, student protests, the July Revolution, and governmental changes, prevented the Trade Expo from taking place. Despite these setbacks, CBCC remains determined to bring the event to fruition in 2025, with preparations already underway.
Promoting Bilateral Trade and Investment
CBCC President Parvez Ahmed has expressed confidence in the upcoming Trade Expo, emphasizing its potential to enhance business ties between Canada and Bangladesh. “Our goal is to provide a platform where entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders can explore new business opportunities and strengthen economic relations. We believe this event will be a game-changer for both countries,” he stated.
The Trade Expo is expected to attract a diverse range of participants, including representatives from various industries such as textiles, technology, healthcare, and food processing. Business leaders, policymakers, and trade experts from both Canada and Bangladesh will engage in discussions, networking sessions, and business matchmaking opportunities.
Bangladesh: A Hub for Investment
During the 2023 road show inauguration, FBCCI President Md Jashim Uddin highlighted Bangladesh’s export target of $300 billion by 2041. He underscored the importance of market and product diversification, stating, “To achieve our long-term economic goals, we need to focus on attracting foreign investment and expanding our global market reach.”
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi also reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to providing a business-friendly environment, noting that the government has developed 100 economic zones, 28 IT parks, and various sector-specific clusters to facilitate industrial growth. “Bangladesh is an ideal destination for investment, and we invite Canadian businesses to take advantage of our expanding economy,” he remarked.
Revitalizing Economic Growth Through Collaboration
CBCC has been actively working to promote economic ties between Canada and Bangladesh since its inception in 1998. Over the years, the Chamber has played a pivotal role in advocating for tax-free imports from Bangladesh and organizing trade-related seminars to support entrepreneurs.
With the upcoming Trade Expo, CBCC aims to create a dynamic platform for business leaders to exchange ideas, explore new opportunities, and solidify partnerships that will drive economic growth for both countries.
More details regarding the venue, key speakers, and participating companies will be announced in the coming months. Business leaders and investors interested in attending are encouraged to stay updated through CBCC’s official channels.
